Robertson Family Foundation

A New Name for a Growing Family Legacy of Giving Honoring the visionary philanthropy of Louise Robertson Lester while embracing the next generation's expanded commitment to transform lives across Virginia and North Carolina.

Roanoke, VA – January 12, 2026 – The Louise R. Lester Foundation, one of the Roanoke Valley's most enduring private philanthropies, today proudly unveils its new name: the Robertson Family Foundation.

The name change signals more than a new chapter—it reflects the natural evolution of a foundation that began with one woman’s generosity and is now guided by multiple generations of the Robertson family united in a shared, forward-looking mission.

Founded in 2001 by the late Louise Robertson Lester—a celebrated artist, poet, businesswoman, and lifelong lover of “Life, Love and Laughter”—the Foundation has quietly transformed countless lives through education, the arts, health, and community vitality. Upon Mrs. Lester’s passing in 2017 at age 96, her family reconstituted the Foundation to carry her spirit into the future. Today, under the leadership of Robertson family members and a dedicated Board, the Foundation is ready to write its next chapter with renewed energy and passion.

- Elaine Robertson Zopp,President of the Board of Directors

Elaine Robertson Zopp, President of the Board of Directors, in remembering Louise Robertson Lester, beloved Aunt, Founder, and heart of the family Foundation, says “She taught us that giving is an act of joy and a responsibility we have to the world around us. The Foundation’s new name, the Robertson Family Foundation, honors her legacy while proudly recognizing the Robertson family’s deepening commitment to build on the valuable work she started. As a family Board of Directors, we are stepping forward with her values as our guide and with an expanded vision for the impact we can make in the lives of others.”

While the name is new, the Foundation’s promise is unchanged: every grant, every partnership, and every initiative will continue to reflect Louise Robertson Lester’s warmth, creativity, and unshakable belief in the power of giving.

The Robertson Family Foundation creates pathways that light the way toward inclusive communities ensuring everyone has the chance to live a life full of meaning and connection. The Foundation serves select areas of Virginia and North Carolina.
